Nicholas Nash defends PhD

Nicholas Nash passed his PhD viva voce exam with a dissertation on the topic of “Practical Aspects of Sorting and Searching”. The examiners, Prof. Stefan Nilsson of KTH Sweden and Dr Andrew Butterfield of TCD, recommend the dissertation be accepted without changes. Nicholas’s thesis takes a new view on a number of classical algorithmic problems, and in particular on the relationship between sorting algorithms and branch prediction.
